Catholic Memorial Reviews

My son graduated from CM last spring.Sending him to CM was one of the best decisions I ever made. He was challenged academically for four years. CM has prepared him well to succeed at the college level. However, I was most impressed with the warm, caring environment of the school. Everyone knew him by name. Whenever I had a question or concern I was given a prompt response by the staff. He was prepared academically as well as socially. As stated in their mission, he was educated to become a gentleman. He was involved in the BERSI program at CM, and visited El Salvador and Peru with the program. These trips have changed him forever as a person. CM educates the whole person academically, socially, and spiitually.

My six brothers and I all graduated from Catholic Memorial and I have worked here for ten years. Next year my son will attend. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, CM is one of the finest schools out there. Although CM prepared my oldest brother well for Harvard and me for Yale, it's academic program has made extraordinary strides since then--in the past four years they have doubled their A.P. course offerings and now offer Mandarin Chinese through a special partnership with the College Board and the People's Republic of China. SATs have improved seven years in a row and there is now an extensive freshman waiting list. I am particularly impressed by CM's efforts to bring students to Third World countries and to instill in them an obligation for the poor and needy--it's a vision of Catholicism that I hope my own sons will embrace.

great school. excellent academics, caring teachers, competitive athletics

I feel Catholic Memorial has been a good fit for my son. He has, overall, been very happy both from an academic standpoint as well as social. I don't feel, however, he was prepared as I feel he should have been with regard to College. His SATs were satisfactory at best. He is a very bright boy and was not given the opportunity to participate in the AP classes which he was very capable. I am dissapointed at the colleges he was qualified to pursue as well as the guidance that went along with the process.

I have to disagree strongly with the last part of the previous comment. I had my son sent to this school because I wanted him well educated in the Catholic faith. On the surface, Catholic Memorial appears to be a good school, but after about six months I had to pull my son out of it do to the atrocious behavior of the other students. This school has no moral standard of conduct. Don't send your child here under any circumstances.

I speak from personal experience. The teachers have tucked my son under their wings and helped him to be the fine young man he has become. Academics are top notch. I am amazed at the strength and quality of my son's writing. His exposure to literature and the classics has given him an incredible vocabulary. The sports program speaks volumes in its successes. The students are expected to be caring citizens and exceptional gentlemen, a trait all-too-often missing in our school systems.
