Learning Prep School Reviews

I am a parent, an advocate and a Foster Parent. I have had the privilege of sending several of my Foster Children to Learning Prep School. They have always been treated equal and respectfully. LPS has a zero tolerance for bulling, name calling and requires that each student not only respect themselves but respect their peers. When I think of Learning Prep I think about a 'Child' sitting in a boat sinking and then Learning Prep throwing them a Life Saver. The Administration and the dedicated staff at Learning Prep dedicate their lives to the children. Learning Prep offers strong academics, Speech, O.T., Counseling, and many other educational opportunities. They have an on-site Daycare where teachers can leave their babies while working. The High School Students participate in Child care where they are given the guidance and direction on how to take care of a small child. An outstanding School. Pat

I came to school when I was in 4th grade .At my hometown school they couldnt teach me at all .I was a nine year old and I was reading at a 2nd grad level. But that change when I came to LPS I was reading in about three weeks. This is a really school .Kids can feel safe here . They also have great programs . I had to the MCAS and I didnt pass and it made me feel stupid but this last year I passed it and I am so glad. The school has many clubs like art music sports SADD Yearbook and they have shops like Food Service and Day care . It is really pretty the teachers are the best .I am going to be a senior this year and I am goingt to misss it so much.If you have a child who has ld look at this school

I graduated from Learning Prep in 2004 and had been attending it since 1998. I love that school so much! It was much better than Hingham Public School system ever could be. Yes they do offer art. I had it every year when I was there and there is a reason they don't offer music programs. Most of the kids in the school have dyslexia, I personally don't have it however, I can imagine looking down at a sheet of music asking myself: 'How am I suppose read this? I have difficulty with reading as it is. I also thought the Work-Study Program really helped me a lot even though I'm still working on my B.A. and not working full time. If I continued my education through public school I would not be as sucessful as I am today. There only so many they can provide with such a small school.

I was hesitant to submit my opinion, mainly for selfish reasons. There are so many wonderful things going right at this school; my son is now a learner who is destined for great things. Our family has been through so much - we count our blessings everyday that we found LPS. I have the utmost confidence that my son is safe and productive during the day and it is because of a dedicated, compassionate and knowledgable staff whom we are forever grateful.

My child is graduating this year from Learning Prep. The Middle School years went well. The High School program lacked in many areas. The Work Study program wasn't worth the extra year of school. Music and Art weren't offered. There are not many extracurricular activities. There was a large turnover of staff including the assistant principal. The management of the High school program needs to step down. The teachers are hard workers. If I had to do the High School program again,I would look somewhere else.

Here at LPS I actually feel safe and the teachers here explain things in a way that makes me understand them. Plus there are fun classes which actually make me look forward to school!

Learning prep school is the best school i had ever went to. Before i came to this school, i didn't understand the concept of learning methods of mathematics. But when i came here, they had showed me everything i was looking for in a great school. They have great afterschool programs especially for basketball. But overall, this school helped me to learn. I was a student at Learing Prep S for 5 years, age 10-15 with a 7 year language deficit with a first grade reading level. I left LPS to go to The Carroll High School then got a degree in Computer Science, speaking to many parents, you have to know what your child can handle at the beginning. Each school excepts different things, it might be the right fit educationaly but not emotionaly. If I was Thrown to The Wolves before I got the skills I received at LPS, I would have become a number instead of a name. I know my name, I know who I am. I know what I want. Know your school, talk to former students, Nancy saved my life along with a bunch others when she took us in 1986. No other school will go to bat for your child. Because they don't care...

I am so impressd with the school's policy regarding safety and respect of all students and staff. This school is remarkably supportive of the staff and students and promotes an atmosphere unlike any other school that I know. The demand for students to be responsible, contributing members of the 'whole school community' is outstanding. My son ( 7th ) grader is doing home work on his own, taking pride and ownership of his accomplishments. I feel that this school is extrodanary! In my opinion it should be one of the highest rated schools in MASS.

I have one son in the 7th grade at the Learning Prep School. (He is now in his 3rd year). He went from public to a collaborative then finally he got into the LPS. I can't say enought about the school. His prior experience in both the public and collaborative were a disaster. He is now more confident, socially accepted, easier going hard working boy. I can not say enough about what the school has done for my son. I thank Nancy and her staff for helping my son be what is has become today! I look forward to seeing him graduate from LPS and becoming a wholesome human being!

We now have a second child at the school, he is doing wonderful When at his base school he had given up and his whole personality had changed but we now have the child we use to have back. He is happy and he really enjoys school. Both our sons at Learning Prep School have a future of college were before at the base school that was not looking good. At one base school IEP meeting a teacher stated he will not need much to work at Walmart. That was the hope then and now it is what college will they pick to go to. The staff is wonderful, careing and the best you will ever find. They have also worked with us in planning the future of the boys. The most impotant thing is they allow the children to have a voice in thier own life.

Management does not work in student's interest. They are more concerned with retaining students so they can collect the $22,000+ from the towns. Once you are in, the management does everything in their power to keep you there even if you are ready to move back to public school.
