He began his career as a lawyer with a focus on juvenile and educational law. He was a partner in a small Boston law firm and served on the boards of the Boston Children's Law Center and the Massachusetts State Bar Association. At his law firm, Sheridan Law, he helps families through difficult and uncertain times by supporting his family law practice, the Sheridan Family Law Group, in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to his work at the firm, he has worked as an attorney for a Boston law firm specializing in complex civil litigation and is the co-founder and managing director of a private practice in Cambridge, Mass.
He has been a champion of mediation and collaborative law and is a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation and the Boston Children's Law Center Board of Directors. Members include specially trained family lawyers or civil lawyers and others who can help meet the needs of families who need mediation services in the state of Massachusetts, as well as others from across the country.

Amy is a member of the Boston Children's Law Center and the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council. She and her husband, Sonja, are parents to two children, Sonja and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, Samuel and Emily.

She has lectured at numerous conferences across the country on dispute resolution issues and has written several books on divorce, custody and family law. In 2014, she served on the board of the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts. Karen is the director of the legal department at Harvard Law School's Center for Family Law and Family Policy.

She has represented clients for over 20 years and represents them on a wide range of issues relating to their respective countries.

Smith is a chartered accountant and financial analyst, both of whom have completed their training with the Massachusetts Department of Financial Services.
